Removal options explained before treatment

Skin cancer surgery at MoleSpot ranges from side-to-side closure in most cases to larger excisions that may need flap or graft closure. Dr. Moh Ehsani is specially trained in this field and has experience in surgical removal of skin cancer with full recommended margins and cosmetic outcome planning.

Side-to-side closure

This normally has the best cosmetic outcome and least risk of complications. Most skin cancer lesions can be removed this way.

Flaps

In some cases, surrounding skin is moved to cover the surgical defect when simple side-to-side closure is not possible.

Grafts

Grafts involve taking skin from a distant location to cover the defect after skin cancer surgery.

When a larger repair may be needed

Factors such as lesion size and anatomical position can affect whether side-to-side closure, a flap or a graft is recommended. Your doctor will discuss the surgical option and next steps during consultation.

  • Squamous cell carcinoma of the lip treated by wedge excision.
  • Basal cell carcinoma removed from face with flap repair.
  • Basal cell carcinoma removed from ear with graft repair.
